Full transparency—since COVID, I got into the habit of working out on my own. At the time, I convinced myself that I had very specific goals and that they would be better served with an individually designed program. And while a custom program CAN be great, my results were… meh. The problem? Consistency. Following a program on your own is tough, and motivation tends to dip over time. Plus, I can say with 100% certainty that the intensity is just NOT the same as when you’re training in a group.
Then came my specific goals around running—specifically qualifying for the Boston Marathon (pat on my own back, I DID IT! 😂). This focus meant I was even less involved in a training community, though I did keep up with a weekly community run with friends from MVMTS, Backroads, and The Run Parlour. And honestly? Those were my favourite runs. I LOVED being surrounded by people who just wanted to move their bodies and share that energy.
So, in January, I made a decision—I was getting back into group classes at MVMTS. I wanted to immerse myself in the community again and experience a different side of what MVMTS offers. I had been doing custom programming for so long that I forgot what it felt like to just show up, be coached, and sweat alongside other people. Now, I’m doing 3-4 classes per week, and I can confidently say—I haven’t had this much FUN in my fitness in a very, very long time.
Initially, I thought I was joining just to reconnect with the community, and that’s definitely happened. But what I didn’t expect was the reminder of just how intense these classes can be! If you know me, you know I’m a bit competitive (lol), and that definitely comes out in class. I push myself SO much harder than I would alone. This has always been true for me, but I will say I’ve become much better at scaling that intensity and listening to my body. If it’s Friday and I’ve already had a big week of training, I dial it back and move with intention instead of just pushing for the sake of it.
And the results? The joy these classes have brought back to my training is unmatched, but the physical results have been just as rewarding. My body fat percentage is down, my skeletal muscle mass is up, and my overall sleep and health scores have improved. That’s a MASSIVE win since my focus this year is much more about health rather than just performance. Balance is my word of the year, and these classes are designed to give me a well-rounded approach to strength and conditioning.
I am SO in love with our classes. Yes, I’m biased, but I’ve been in the fitness world for a very long time and have taken classes at gyms all over the world—literally, lol. And I can confidently say that we offer the most balanced program I’ve ever experienced. Big words, I know, but I stand by them.
So, thank you Coach Will for designing this incredible program, thank you to our amazing coaches for pushing me (and calling me out when needed), and a HUGE thank you to our MVMTS members for inspiring me daily. You remind me why I love this so much, and I’m grateful to be sweating alongside you again.
If you’ve been feeling a little meh about your training lately, or if you’re struggling with motivation—maybe it’s time to give group classes a shot again. You might just fall back in love with your fitness too
See you in class!
