This past weekend I spent time with a 77-year-old who left me feeling inspired.
He was out on the Sea-Doo, ripping around while his grandkids bounced on the tube behind him, laughing the whole way. Later, when we all jumped into the pool, he casually said, “I always start with 10 lengths.” And then he swam them — smooth, strong, and smiling.
That’s freedom. That’s what a life of strength buys you.
When most people hear “building muscle,” they think about lifting weights to bulk up. But the truth is muscle isn’t about looks. It’s about protection. It’s your armor. It keeps you moving the way you want to, doing the things you love, and living life on your terms — whether that’s swimming laps at 77, carrying groceries at 57, or chasing your kids around at 37.
Muscle cushions your joints and lowers the risk of injury. It gives you balance and stability when life throws you off course. It’s also one of the strongest predictors of healthy aging: more muscle means fewer falls, less time in the hospital, and a greater chance of staying independent as you get older.
On top of that, muscle works for you behind the scenes. It helps regulate blood sugar, supports heart health, and boosts metabolism. Every rep you do in the gym compounds like an investment account, paying you back in health and energy down the road.
The best time to start building muscle was yesterday. The second best time is today. And it doesn’t take hours a day — two or three focused strength sessions each week, paired with good nutrition and recovery, can completely change the trajectory of your health.
So the next time you think about skipping the weights, remember the 77-year-old who’s still out there living fully. That’s what muscle makes possible.
If you’re ready to start building your armor, we’d love to help. Book a free No Sweat Intro at MVMT Strength, and together we’ll create a plan that lets you enjoy that same kind of freedom for decades to come.
