If there’s one thing we’ve learned over the past year, it’s this: you are never too old to start strength training.
At MVMT Strength, our mission has always been to help Londoners move more and move for life—but for too long, we were overlooking a group that needed us the most: our London Legends.
We’ve seen firsthand the impact strength training can have on older adults who want to stay active, move better, and keep doing the things they love.
And no one embodies that more than Tom.
Meet Tom: Proof That Strength Training Has No Age Limit
Tom is 74. A lifelong athlete, he tore a tendon in his shoulder playing hockey in December 2023. While recovering, he also experienced a flare-up of osteoarthritis in his knee—leaving him unable to train, losing strength, and feeling stuck.
Fast forward to today? He’s moving better, getting stronger, and feeling 100% better.
“I joined MVMT Strength, and it’s the best decision I have made in a long time. I’m regaining strength, mobility, and balance—and feel 100% better! It goes to show that you are never too old to start. I’m 74.” – Tom
Tom’s story is not unique. We’ve worked with many men and women in their 60s and 70s who felt like their best years of movement were behind them. Now, they’re proving to themselves (and everyone else) that strength has no age limit.
Why Strength Training is Essential as We Age
🚶♂️ Stay Independent & Active
- The stronger you are, the easier it is to do the things you love—travel, play with grandkids, carry groceries, or just get up and down from the floor without effort.
🦴 Prevent Falls & Improve Bone Density
- Strength training reduces the risk of falls by improving balance and coordination. It also helps maintain and even build bone density, which is key in preventing osteoporosis.
💪 Maintain Strength & Muscle Mass
- After age 30, we naturally lose muscle mass every year—unless we actively work to maintain it. Strength training helps preserve muscle, keeping you strong for life.
🩺 Reduce Pain & Improve Joint Health
- If you have arthritis, knee pain, or old injuries, movement is medicine. Smart strength training can reduce stiffness, strengthen the muscles around your joints, and help you move with less pain.
Not Comfortable in a Big Gym? We Have Options for You.
We know walking into a gym can feel intimidating—especially if you haven’t worked out in years (or ever). That’s why we’ve created personalized options for older adults who want to get stronger in a safe, welcoming, and structured environment.
At MVMT Strength, you can choose:
✅ 1-on-1 Personal Training – Work with a coach who will guide you through a training program tailored to your body, needs, and goals.
✅ Semi-Private Training (Up to 3 People) – Train with a small group of friends, a spouse, or other like-minded individuals—each following your own customized program, with a coach present to guide and support you.
This means no one-size-fits-all workouts—just smart, individualized training designed to help you move better, get stronger, and feel amazing.
You’re Never Too Old to Start
Strength training isn’t just about lifting weights—it’s about staying independent, building confidence, and feeling capable at any age.
Tom thought his best years of movement were behind him—now he’s stronger, healthier, and ready to coach his Dragon Boat team this spring.
You can do this too.
Because strength is for everyone—at every stage of life.
